Bathroom Remodeling Project: Bathtub Options

Planning a bathroom remodeling project can be super fun, especially if you are going to replace an old, yellowed, outdated bathtub. The shower and bath are usually the largest fixtures in a bathroom and the focal point of the room. When your bathtub looks old and dirty the look of the entire room can be brought down. When a bathroom remodeling project includes a new bathtub, your home value can increase. What are your options for types of bathtubs?

Types of Bathtubs

There are four main types of bathtubs that you can choose from for a bathroom remodeling project. Each of these bathtub types come in various sizes, shapes, quality, and with many accessory options.

General Purpose- A general purpose bath is what most people have installed in the average homes. These bathtubs generally serve as both shower and bath and are installed in an alcove. These bathtubs are often made from porcelain or have a plastic tub lining.

Soaking Tubs- A soaking tub is deeper than a general-purpose tub and is meant for full immersion into the water. These tubs are most often seen as vintage claw foot tubs, but they also come in modern versions of different shapes and sizes. Soaking tubs are usually freestanding and need more space than a general-purpose tub.

Walk-in Tub- Walk-in tubs are much like general purpose tubs except they have a door that allows for people to walk into the tub rather than stepping or climbing over a high bath edge. These tubs are commonly found in residential living facilities, nursing homes, and other senior facilities and homes. Walk-in tubs are usually designed with people with disabilities in mind.

Whirlpool/Jetted Tub: These tubs are the largest kind of tub are usually seat at least 2 people. There are sometimes seats or ledges to sit on much like a hot tub. The jets inside the tub are for water massage. Air tubs are similar to whirlpool tub but are made for creating hundreds of bubbles rather than pushing air through the water for therapeutic massage.

Depending on which bathroom you are planning to complete your bathroom remodel plan on, any of the four bathtub options can be perfect for your project.
