Outside Air Conditioning Unit Not Working? Check These Things Before Calling an Air Conditioning Repair Company

Summer is here, and the days are getting hotter. One of the biggest fears for most home owners is that their AC unit won’t cool properly. What should you do if your air outside conditioner unit isn’t working? The fan inside the furnace may run, but the air may not be cooling as it should.

Prior to calling an air conditioning repair company, check the following things.

• Check that the thermostat is set properly and is on Cool instead of the off position
• Program the temperature to about five degrees lower than the temperature is on the inside
• Check for a blown fuse and the circuit breaker

In the event of a power surge, the air conditioner could have caused a fuse to blow or issues with the circuit breaker. This can be checked in a couple of locations. The primary electrical panel should be the first place you check. Older style homes will have a fuse box that should be checked. Flip the circuit off and then back on to see if it was tripped. The second location is at the shutoff box. This is located near the air conditioner. Some shut off boxes on the AC will have a fuse. Replace the fuse to see if it helps.

Either of the above methods may help the issue but calling an air conditioning repair company is still a good idea. It may be only temporarily that the unit works. A certified technician can check for any other issues that may exist. A professional service call could prevent the air conditioner from malfunctioning again.

Maintain regular service checks on the air conditioning unit to try and prevent system failures. Air conditioning repair technicians provide full-service repair, but there are some things you can check yourself prior to calling them. Always enlist the service of a certified technician for severe technical issues with your AC unit.
