How to Solve Common Toilet Problems
You know that sinking feeling you get when your toilet starts to overflow or won’t flush? Even a toilet that constantly runs can be more than an annoyance. There are some common toilet problems that, if left untreated, could lead to a lot of water and pipe damage.
Some toilet problems can be solved with a quick do-it-yourself fix. Others will require the help of a professional plumber. Here are a few
common problems and how to deal with them.
Toilet Won’t Flush
There are a few different reasons a toilet won’t flush properly. One easy fix is to make sure there isn’t too much slack on the lift chain inside the tank. Also be sure to check to make sure the tank is filled as recommended by the manufacturer. In most cases there is a mark on the side of the tank illustrating how high to fill the tank.
If neither of these simple fixes work, contact Red Cap Plumbing we can inspect the toilet, diagnose the problem and make repairs.
Clogged Toilet
Clogged toilets aren’t any fun to deal with, but in most cases you can clear blockage yourself. Use a flanged plunger and push straight down onto the drain with quick thrusts. Then, remove the plunger and see if the water in the toilet drains.
If you aren’t able to clear the drain with a plunger, the blockage may be further down and you will need to use a plumber’s snake to clear it. Be sure to follow the directions that came with the snake to avoid causing damage.
A plumber with professional equipment should address extreme clogs.
These DIY tips can help you fix some common toilet problems, but some issues require a professional’s experience and equipment. If you aren’t sure why your toilet isn’t working properly or how to make the repair yourself, always contact a professional plumber.
